Every Product Begins With a Need
Some of our best ideas do not begin with the question, “What can we sell?”
They begin with a much simpler one: “What do you need?”
Bee-Relaxed began that way.
Long before it had a name or a label, it was simply something I made at home for my sons.
Both of them are athletes. I became familiar with the rhythm of training days: the long sessions, the tired walk back through the door, the training bags put down and bodies that had been asked to give a little more again. I could see the effort behind what they were pursuing. I could also see what that effort cost.
And, as their mother, I wanted to help.
There was no product-development meeting. I was not thinking about shelves, sales or what Miss Bee Haven should launch next. I was looking at the people in front of me and asking what might make their after-training routine a little easier.
That question led me to look more closely at magnesium. I wanted something uncomplicated that they could keep nearby and reach for after activity or as they settled down in the evening. So I began making a spray at home, adjusting it and paying attention to how naturally it fitted into our lives.
That was the beginning of Bee-Relaxed.
Not a trend. Not a marketing idea. A need I could see with my own eyes.
I have come to believe that some of the most meaningful things we create begin in moments exactly like that. Nothing dramatic happens. There is no grand announcement. Someone you love is tired. A familiar difficulty keeps appearing. A quiet thought rises: perhaps there is another way to care for this.
The moment is ordinary, but the attention we give it can change what comes next.
Bee-Relaxed eventually travelled beyond our home and found a place in other people’s routines. Today it is a simple, fragrance-free magnesium spray, prepared in small batches for evening, post-activity or everyday wind-down rituals. Yet every bottle still carries the reason it was first made. Before it became a product, it was an act of care.
That matters to me because it says something important about Miss Bee Haven.
I do not want to make things merely to have more things to sell. I want what we create to be useful. I want it to earn its place in someone’s home. I want there to be thought behind it, restraint in it and a genuine reason for it to exist.
Creating with intention means beginning by listening. It means noticing the needs hidden inside everyday life and resisting the urge to rush past them. Sometimes the answer becomes a preparation. Sometimes it becomes a new way of doing something. Sometimes what is needed is not another thing at all.
But we do not discover that by beginning with what we want to make. We discover it by beginning with the person in front of us.
That is the spirit behind Bee Intentional, our theme for September. It is an invitation to pay closer attention: to the people we love, to the problems that keep returning and to the quiet ideas that may be asking us to act. Not every idea needs to become something grand. Sometimes purpose looks like one small bottle within reach at the end of a demanding day.
Bee-Relaxed may now carry the Miss Bee Haven name, but at its heart, it still belongs to that first moment at home: my sons needed something, I noticed, and I made what I could.
Perhaps that is where our most worthwhile work begins.
Not with, “What can we sell?”
But with, “What do you need?”
Bee Intentional.
